The dictionary of the SmileLab Suite (in Smile's dictionary) includes a particles command to do particle analysis in a grayscale image.
The Particles example for SmileLab consists mainly in ParticlesLib, a library based on the particles command, to facilitate the analysis and to post-process the results. The example (image and script) is provided in the download and can be found into /Applications/Smile/SmileLab sample scripts/particles/. The data folder contains the AppleScript library and the sample image.
