• In Smile you can use AppleScript's built-in computational features. AppleScript is easy to use, it can natively write and read binary as well as ASCII files. AppleScript makes a convenient framework to perform calculations when arrays do not exceed a few hundred items. In the chapter below we recall the main information about computing in AppleScript.
• To perform extensive computations you must use Smile's own set of computational features, which are fast and reliable for handling arrays of arbitrarily large sizes.
• Specific or advanced computational needs are addressed by various means, thanks to the openness of AppleScript with respect to external codes.
